Which is better: 55 Necro or 55 Monk?
This has been a question I have always had and have finally decided to ask it.
Currently I have a level 3 Necromancer with max armor and a Stonereaper. I've read a ton of awesome builds for Necro 55 and thought it'd be great to give it a try. But also, I've read many 55 Monk builds for solo'ing.
So, is 55 Monk or 55 Necro better for farming in NM/HM? I don't really want to have to delete a character and spend money making a 55 Monk, but I will if it means making more money in the long run. But I thought I'd ask the experts first.
Thanks in advance.

Why not have both like the majority of players?

well with the 55 necro, you can only run n/mo builds, and then there's not many other options. But with monk, you can always run mo/n and just have less offence, but then you can also go mo/d for KD and degen heavy areas, mo/me for areas with interupts, mo/w for things like UW, and so on. I'd take monk primary for versatility. Anyways, your level 3, there's not much progress in that that should keep you from deleting the character.

More/less whatever. They're just different, with different abilities and weaknesses. You can make just as much money with a ranger...
All I'm saying is play to the strengths of whichever character you DO play and you'll be fine. Necro is able to kill faster, and with greater ability to handle healing foes in my opinion (in general) but monk can handle far greater degen, and has more versatility.... choose yer poison.

Well if you were using Spiteful Spirit in both builds as the primary damage dealing source the Necromancer would be able to deal more damage. Due to their ability to use Curses Runes and +1 Curses head pieces. However the Monk has the bonus of Divine Favor, which in moderate ranks will fully heal the Monk every time a Monk spell is used.
Not to mention the ability to use the Dervish as a secondary, and other secondaries other than just Ne/Mo, which gives a bit of added versatility. To be honest I wouldn't recommend one over the other, as I feel it would be best to just highlight each builds strengths and possible weaknesses.

I have both and find that a Monk 55 is much more versatile as others have said.
You can SS/SV with a Nec secondary, Bonetti's with War, Arcane Echo with Mes, Mystic regen with Derv, Pet with Ranger etc
Also the added benefit of all the Monk Sup runes which can allow for things like +8 HB and +4 Mending, longer Prot, Divine bonuses, max damage SOJ etc.
It doesn't take that long to build a new 55 anyway, a few days max. And with rune prices at it's lowest ever, why shouldn't you. You can start levelling yourself from an early level with Drok's trolls or the equivalent

I would say a Monk because they have more flexibility by far, although I do not have a 55 necro :/.

I only have a 55 Necro and it's rad as ever!!! I farm UW, HM, NM... Basically anywhere without degen, mesmers or necros...
I am keen to make a 55 monk to farm with as well, but it involves cruising around all 3 continents for a few days/weeks to get all the good farming spots open for it... I already have that with my necro, so it's unlikely I will change.
The point on versatility is true, a 55 monk is more versatile and makes things easier (KD, etc) but still... a 55 Necro can farm any area a 55 monk can (maybe just not as easily...
GL HF with your 55

Get both...
Simply put.... Monks are better for farming more places... but I use my Necro for enemies that don't cause ANY health degeneration... since under those circumstances she can kill things considerably faster.
Besides though, think beyond mere farming.
I personally find my Necro much more fun to play on general terms than my Monk.... and pretty much ONLY have Hyun Cho Min (the Monk) for farming purposes, while Ghost of Cot Death (the Necro) I use for all sorts.
But yeah... since you asked...
If you're only looking to farm then stick with the Monk. It is far easier to keep yourself alive with the various Monk builds. Playing a 55 Necro requires your constant attention.
